Toronto Gujaratis celebrate together

How do you put on a party for 4,000? Ask Amit Bhatt. On Saturday September 13, the non-profit organization Chel Chabilo Gujarati Cultural Club (CCGC) is hosting a non-stop 12-hour event for 4,000(!) at Mississauga’s Premium Banquet Hall. Bhatt, editor and publisher of Gujarat Express and Showbiz Express, is also the Club’s President.

In their efforts to recognize the Gujarat community and to provide social support, the Club organizes many traditional and cultural events throughout the year. Although no membership fee is required, to be part of the group, entry to events such as Saturday’s, is limited and exclusively for members only. (The Club indicates they currently have over 1,100 members.) The CCGC’s first event was a musical “Dinner ‘n Dance” program, inaugurated by the MP Dr. Ruby Dhalla.

The event on Saturday, however, is particularly special, as it will honour the religious leaders of each of the four main Gujarat Temples in Toronto for their contribution to the Gujarat community. As such, between 6 and 7 pm tomorrow night, for the first time, all 4 leaders will be on the same platform, at the same time.

The event is scheduled to begin at 10 am on Saturday (tomorrow) and end at 10 pm, 12 hours later.
