A few months ago, Boston.com began a new feature entitled “The Big Picture“, a photo blog with high resolution photographs — BIG photographs — and minimal accompanying text, letting the picture tell the story. Boston.com’s Alan Taylor came up with the idea. As he noted in a blog post, “the long-held tradition of keeping images online tiny and lightweight is commendable still - when designing a general purpose site. But one dedicated to quality imagery should take full advantage of the medium, and I hope I’ve struck a good balance with The Big Picture.” Indeed. One of the latest installments is a 15-pic series entitled “Scenes from Rio de Janeiro”: extraordinary.
And, while I’m on the subject of photos, I recently came across Ticky Box Images, a celebratory look at Africa through the eyes of young photographers and illustrators. The e-commerce site creates job opportunities by promoting the work of its young artists (most are under the age of 35).
