Just because: Ashes and Snow

The journey of Toronto-born Gregory Colbert‘s epic exhibition Ashes and Snow® began in 2002 with its installation at a 125,000 square-foot shipyard in Venice. Since that time, it has been in New York, Santa Monica, Tokyo and Mexico City. Featuring 50 large-scale photographic artworks, a 60-minute feature film and two short film haikus, the work is massive and travels by way of Colbert’s sustainable, traveling Nomadic Musuem®. To date, more than 10 million people across 4 continents have experienced the exhibition.

The 60-minute film includes narration in three languages: Laurence Fishburne (English), Ken Watanabe (Japanese), and Enrique Rocha (Spanish). Below is a clip with highlights of Colbert’s extraordinary work.

The exhibition will soon migrate to Brazil; let’s hope Gregory brings it home, here to Toronto sometime soon. More information about Gregory Colbert and Ashes and Snow® is available at www.ashesandsnow.com.
