Local South Asian celebrations, festivals and events are front and center this weekend, with the upcoming Independence Day celebrations of both India and Pakistan.
Harbourfront is also running their South Asian Calling program.
Not to be outdone, Brampton’s South Asian Festival is celebrating “Brampton Rose” tomorrow (August 9) at Queen & Main in Brampton. (You can view their commercial on YouTube here.)
About a week from now, there’s Rang Barse – the Colour Festival – on Saturday August 16, at Wildwood Park in Mississauga. As organizers describe it, “it’s the first event of its kind in the GTA, proposed to be an annual event. The theme of unity and diversity, which is truly what it means to be Canadian, will be the central focus using skits and presentations.” Along with performances by South Asian talent and artists from across Canada, the event will also feature interactive dance sessions, authentic “Chawpath” style food, games, and a creative art competition.
